I think information like this is super important to pay attention to, especially if you’re in the businesses of Generative Artificial Intelligence. — While it may seem like magic, the cloud isn’t stored in the sky – but rather large plots of flat land, and lots of it. Many of the pollutants from the centers required to service these platforms tend to find their ways into the soils and waterways we use to grow food and to raise livestock, with certain platitudes given to say “this is as bad as it’s going to get.” Some of the top advice I’d been given about AI is to not just take the first output as your answer, but to use this as your first draft and to work from there. Though it seems that the reality of this scenario is for many rural townships to have to have to live through the next 20 years of “temporary infrastructure” in order to move forward with more-efficient means. The technology is here and developed, but there ought to be further talk about how we can better consider local perspective as a priority in industrial development. And how this technology can service our communities rather than big business.
