Upon graduating from Parsons School of Design in 1987, Jeff Mahshie designed sportswear for Carmelo Pomodoro. Shortly thereafter, he went to work for iconic designer Giorgio di Sant Angelo, first as an assistant, then studio director and ultimately a designer. There Mahshie oversaw collections, celebrity made-to-order, and licensees, which included furs, knitwear, and shoes.

In 1996 Mahshie became a consultant to John Bartlett’s womenswear collection, as well as a consultant for the Italian house of Byblos. In his eight years as creative director of Chaiken, beginning in 1999, he expanded the company to include swimwear, outerwear, maternity and evening, as well as producing two shows a year at Bryant Park and four collections a year, including holiday/resort and transition.

Simultaneously, Mahshie consulted for the legendary label Halston, while also costuming New York City stage productions, which included Scott Elliots Hurly Burly (earning him a Drama Desk nomination), Paul Weitz’s Show People and Priviledge, as well as Scott Ellis’ The Little Dog Laughed. Mahshie’s clients include Mary-Louise Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Idina Menzel, Jennifer Connelly, Kevin Bacon, Julianna Margulies, David Lynch, Kyra Sedgwick, and Brian Stokes Mitchell.
