Understand These 6 AI Terms Before You Trust Another AI Answer

You upload a report. The AI produces a confident summary, complete with a number you cannot find anywhere in the document.

You ask it to check. It apologizes and supplies a different number.

What went wrong? Missing information? A retrieval failure? An invented answer? Understanding a few AI terms helps you ask a better question than “Why is this thing lying?”

There is a measurable reason to care. In Stack Overflow’s 2025 Developer Survey, 46% of respondents to its accuracy question distrusted AI output, compared with 33% who trusted it. That question received 33,244 responses. These are developer opinions, not measurements of model accuracy or a representative survey of humanity. Knowing six definitions will not establish that you understand AI better than 90% of people. That ranking would require an actual assessment and a defined population. What these concepts can give you is a practical way to spot mistakes, control costs, and judge product claims.
